Scott County (Arkansas) Collector: Disabled Veteran Property Tax Exemption

Scott County's tax collector, Sheriff Randy Shores ex officio, at the courthouse, 190 West 1st Street, Box 14, Waldron (479-637-1017), takes the State's disabled veteran exemption on the home and personal property; the Collector's page still says the VA form must be brought every year, but since Act 876 of 2025 it is a one-time filing.

Also called: property tax, collector, sheriff, DAV exemption, 26-3-306, homestead, personal property, Act 876, VA letter, Randy Shores, Olivia James, Kendall Fowler, 479-637-1017, Waldron, Mansfield, Boles, Parks, Hon, Y City.

For: Veteran or service member, child, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The exemption is the State's, under section 26-3-306, as the Arkansas entry on the disabled veteran property tax exemption explains: no tax on the home, its land and personal property for a veteran VA rates 100% permanent and total or pays special monthly compensation for the loss or loss of use of a limb or blindness, carried on by an unremarried surviving spouse and minor children. Act 876 of 2025 added to section 26-3-306(b) that the VA letter "is required to be submitted only one (1) time" and that "annual submission of a letter from the department is not required", from the 2025 assessment year, so long as you tell the collector if you stop qualifying or move. File again for a new home. The county's page. The Collector's page, under "Disabled Veteran (DAV) Information": "Disabled Veterans who receive a form from the Veteran's Administration Office are encouraged to bring their forms as soon as they receive them in order for their statement to reflect the correct information. In order to receive a full credit on your personal taxes (vehicle(s)) and real estate taxes (residence only) you must be considered totally and permanently disabled due to your service-disconnected disabilities We keep a file which must be updated annually and must receive a form each year for this entitlement." Two corrections: the State test is a service-connected 100% permanent and total rating (or special monthly compensation for the loss or loss of use of a limb or blindness), and since Act 876 of 2025 the letter is filed once, not every year. Ask the office to update your file under the new rule. The office. 190 West 1st Street, Box 14, Waldron, AR 72958; phone 479-637-1017, fax 479-637-5219; Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with Chief Deputy Olivia James and Deputy Wendi Edwards. The page names no collector; the State portal and the Association of Arkansas Counties both name Randy Shores, whom the Association also lists as Sheriff. The county's page names Kendall Fowler as Assessor ((479) 637-2666); the State portal still names Terri Churchill at the same number. Taxes are due by October 15.
