What it does. Its accredited service officers file claims for federal VA benefits: disability compensation, pension, health care, education and training, home loan, burial and memorial, and dependents and survivors. Its officers are accredited by the VA to represent claimants, and since Resolution 280 of October 21, 2025 the Director signs a written service officer/claimant representation agreement with each veteran. The agency also gives transition assistance, homeless outreach and housing help, requests military records and medals, and refers to outside agencies.
Van. The agency drives veterans to medical appointments at the Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany; after-hours cancellations go to 518-742-0863. The county-owned van was wrecked and declared a total loss, and the Board of May 19, 2026 bought a 2026 Ford Transit for no more than $70,000, applying $42,738 of insurance proceeds.
Veterans Trust Fund. Established in 2010 to accept donations, it makes grants to Saratoga County veterans and their families for training, education, health care, housing assistance and essential services, and supports veterans' organisations and projects; donations are tax deductible and stay in the county. The Veterans' Affairs Committee approved a $5,000 allocation from the fund balance on December 2, 2025. The agency can be reached about the fund at 518-884-4115.
Ceremonies. The Honor Deceased Veterans Ceremony, established by the Board in 1999, honours a different county veteran each month and has honoured more than 300; supervisors submit honoree names to the agency at least 90 days ahead. The county also keeps a veterans' float for parades, booked through town supervisors from April 1.
