Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Veterans Treatment Court. The Superior Court of Santa Clara County runs it among its collaborative courts. The court says it serves "anyone with proof that they have served in the military" who meets the requirements of the statute on mental illness, substance abuse, sexual trauma and other conditions, working with VA treatment and County Behavioral Health. The statutes are Penal Code sections 1001.80 (pretrial military diversion) and 1170.9 (treatment on probation for a service-related condition); see the California entry. The court names no discharge requirement, and neither statute has one. Ask defense counsel for a referral. Public Defender at the veterans office. The Public Defender's Community Outreach Team is at the Office of Veterans Services, 68 North Winchester Boulevard, Santa Clara, from 8:30 a.m. to noon on the second Tuesday of each month. Its attorneys start expungements and advise on other post-conviction relief, help put arrest and bench warrants on calendar, help with fines and fees from old traffic cases, and connect veterans with civil legal services. They can advise on a pending criminal case only where the Public Defender is already the attorney of record. Contact 408-299-7700 or [email protected].
