Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Town of Sandwich grants the veterans’ exemptions of G.L. c. 59, s. 5, clauses 22 to 22F, through its board of assessors. The statute sets them as dollars off the tax bill, $400 under clause 22, $750, $1,250 and $1,500 under 22A to 22C and $1,000 under 22E, and exempts the whole domicile under 22D and 22F; a town can add to them only by accepting a local option, clause 22I, clause 22J or section 5C½. Every figure on this entry carries its source and the day it was read. The Assessing Department’s Fiscal Year 2026 Exemption Criteria gives $514.50 under clause 22 (a service-connected disability of at least 10 percent or a Purple Heart, on a VA certificate dated as of July 1, 2025), $964.69 under 22A, $1,929.38 under 22C and $1,286.25 under 22E (a 100 percent certificate required annually), and no 22B line. Each is the statutory amount raised by a quarter - $500, $937.50, $1,875 and $1,250 - and then by the Department of Revenue’s fiscal 2026 clause 22I adjustment of 2.9 percent, which is clause 22I with clause 22J at 25 percent. The same sheet leaves clause 17D at $175, the statute, so the quarter addition reaches the veterans’ clauses alone, as clause 22J does and section 5C½ does not. The sheet names no clause, and no town meeting vote was found in the town’s online records; ask the assessors for the option behind the amounts. The sheet’s residence test, six months’ domicile before entering service or one consecutive year before filing, is the older one, where the statute now asks two consecutive years. Applications for fiscal 2026 ran from January 1 through April 1, 2026. The town’s veterans’ service is the Cape Cod district, at 66 Falmouth Road in Hyannis; the town’s Veteran Resources page lists the district office’s number as 508-778-0124, where the Executive Office of Veterans’ Services’ directory gives 508-778-8740. The town’s site is sandwichmass.org; sandwich.ma.us does not resolve. Chapter 115 benefits, the Commonwealth’s needs-based help with rent, food, fuel and medical costs, are applied for through Sandwich Veterans Services: Cape Cod District Office. Their amounts are set by the Commonwealth and are the same in every city and town; the statewide chapter 115 entry describes them.

GateRule
A VA rating, a decoration, or a surviving relativeClause 22 reaches a veteran rated 10 percent or more, a Purple Heart recipient, a Gold Star parent and the spouse or unmarried surviving spouse; 22A to 22E turn on named losses, decorations, a 100 percent rating or specially adapted housing. The rating filter does not hide this entry, because several routes need no rating.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
