Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The San Mateo County Veterans Services Office, set up in 1946 and now part of the Human Services Agency, is the county veterans service office California counties run under Military and Veterans Code section 970; see the California entry. It says plainly that it is not part of VA. What it does. Free help with service-connected disability compensation, the needs-based VA pension, California veterans benefits, VA life insurance, burial benefits and home loans, and the CalVet College Fee Waiver for dependents, with referrals for PTSD care, substance use treatment, emergency shelter, food and health care, in-home help and discharge upgrades. Veterans, spouses, surviving spouses, children of deceased or disabled veterans, and parents who lost a son or daughter in service can all use it. Where and when. 550 Quarry Road, San Carlos; the doors are open Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed noon to 1. It is an appointment-only office: in-person appointments are on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, and Friday is an administrative day for scheduled appointments only. The one walk-in service is the veteran designation on a California driver licence or ID card. Call before coming about disabled veteran plates, so the office can confirm eligibility first. Phone 650-802-6598; email [email protected]. The County ID card is gone. The office began issuing a free County veteran ID card in 2015; the Parks Department now calls it discontinued, and the DMV veteran designation does the same job.
