San Mateo County Parks: Free Vehicle Entry for Veterans
San Mateo County Parks waives its $6 vehicle entrance fee year-round for a veteran with proof of veteran status, at every county park. The Board of Supervisors adopted the waiver in 2016. Camping, reservations and other user fees still apply.
Also called: parks, park entrance fee, vehicle entry, day use, Coyote Point, Huddart, Memorial Park, San Pedro Valley, veteran ID, DMV veteran designation.
The Parks Department's fee schedule lists veterans with proof of veteran status first among the entry fee waivers for the $6 per-vehicle General User Fee. The Board of Supervisors approved the waiver from November 11, 2016 on, at the request of the Supervisor for District 4, with the support of the Parks Commission.
Proof. The Department accepts the veteran designation on a California driver licence or ID card, a VA veteran ID card, and the County veteran ID cards still in circulation, which are no longer issued.
What it covers. Vehicle entry for day use. Camping, group and picnic reservations, reservation changes and other user fees are charged as usual; where a fee schedule says a site fee is "same as vehicle entry fee", that part is the entry fee the waiver covers. The fee schedule names no rating, discharge type or residence test, so a visitor from outside the county qualifies too.
Others on the same list. Vehicles displaying disabled plates or a placard enter free, as do seniors 62 and over on non-holiday weekdays and VA hospital-sponsored patient activities on non-holiday weekdays.
