Military Diversion. Pretrial diversion for veterans charged with a misdemeanour or certain felonies who suffer from sexual trauma, traumatic brain injury, post-traumatic stress disorder, substance abuse or mental health problems as a result of service. On successful completion the arrest and charges are dismissed and sealed, and cannot be used to deny employment, benefits, a licence or a certificate.
Veterans Treatment Court. For veterans who do not qualify for diversion: an alternative sentence with regular court appearances, mandatory treatment and substance testing in place of jail, which on completion can bring reduced or waived fines, early termination of probation, or charges reduced, dismissed or expunged.
The court also holds a monthly Homeless Court at St. Mary's Interfaith Community Services, 545 West Sonora, Stockton, to clear minor offences, bench warrants and old fines through community service and programmes; VA is one of the places to sign up.
