Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

San Diego County Parks and Recreation honours the State's Distinguished Veterans Pass, which State Parks issues to qualifying disabled veterans, former prisoners of war and Medal of Honor recipients; see the California entry. With the pass a veteran gets up to seven nights of free camping a calendar year at any county campground and free day use at any county park or reserve that charges, for the pass holder's vehicle only. DVP camping cannot be booked online. Book by phone at 877-565-3600, weekdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., or same-day at the campground with ranger approval; say you hold the pass, give its number for an advance booking, and show the pass itself, not a copy, and photo ID at check-in. Only the site the holder occupies is free. A San Diego County resident with a DMV disabled placard, a disabled plate or a Disabled Veteran plate can instead buy a Disabled Discount Card for $20, worth $3 off each weekday night and $1 off each Friday and Saturday night of camping. Discount cards cannot be combined with any other promotion or discount.
