The veteran items. The Commission adopted an Operation Green Light proclamation at its October 28, 2025 meeting (the meeting record carries the adoption among the board's resolutions), the county's buildings green for November 4-11, 2025. The practice runs back through the county's annual releases: the 2022 proclamation (read by management intern Farel Otieno, "We all enjoy our freedom. Shining a green light is one small way we can let our veterans know that they are seen, appreciated, and supported" - Commissioner Bob Vidricksen, an Army veteran), the 2023 Resolution 2023-70 Veterans Green Light Project presented by the state office's own Veteran Service Officer, and the 2024 release - "We're proud to be part of this nationwide effort to show our veterans how much we appreciate them" (Commission Chair Joe Hay, Jr.) - with "This is more than just lighting up buildings. It's about starting conversations, making sure veterans know we've got their backs, and spreading the word about the services available to them and their families."
The memorial. The county's namesake memorial sits in the city's park: "Salina-Saline County War Memorial, located in Sunset Park, is an eight-sided concrete monolith with giant bronze plaques. Paving bricks with inscribed veterans' names outline the walkways known as the 'Walk of Honor.' ... dedicated to the City of Salina in 1994" (the Salina Post). On April 27, 2026 the Salina City Commission approved a 50 percent contribution, not to exceed 165,732.51 dollars of a 317,428.66 dollar improvement project (memorial benches, granite monuments, marker wall tiles, brick paving, walks, landscaping and lighting), at the request of the reconstituted Salina-Saline County War Memorial Inc. - with a request for the county's own contribution to follow.
No veteran benefit was adopted, narrowed or repealed; the record is the annual recognition. Kansas keeps no county veterans service office (see the state office's entry).
