Saline County Collector: Disabled Veteran Exemption

Saline County publishes the exemption's rules in full: the annual Summary of Benefits letter is due by October 15 every year, a DAV recipient cannot take the Amendment 79 credit or the over-65 freeze while receiving it, and the office cannot refund past years a letter was not filed for.

Also called: property tax, collector, DAV exemption, 26-3-306, Summary of Benefits, October 15, Amendment 79, surviving spouse.

For: Veteran or service member, child, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The exemption is the State's, under section 26-3-306: a disabled veteran awarded special monthly compensation for loss or loss of use of a limb, total blindness, or a 100 percent service-connected total and permanent disability is exempt from all state taxes on the homestead and personal property. Saline County's collector publishes the qualification and application rules on its own site. Who qualifies. A veteran VA rates 100 percent service-connected disabled, unemployable, or the unmarried surviving spouse. The veteran or surviving spouse must be on the personal property assessment and title, must be listed as owner on the real estate, and is not eligible for the Amendment 79 homestead credit or the over-65 freeze while receiving the DAV exemption. A surviving spouse must remain unmarried, or a subsequent marriage must have terminated, to keep receiving it. What to file. A current qualifying Summary of Benefits letter - the letter VA mails out each January. If it has not arrived by April 1, the county's veteran services agent sits next door to the collector's office. A surviving spouse also files a Surviving Spouse Affidavit, downloadable from the collector's page. The deadline to submit the Summary of Benefits letter is October 15, and it must be turned in annually; the office asks for it as soon as it arrives. The limits. Rental property, special improvement taxes, city liens, sanitation, timber and land only do not qualify, and the home must be occupied. Since personal and real estate taxes are considered voluntarily paid, the office cannot refund previous years of DAV eligibility if the letter was not turned in. On a sale or purchase, the office wants the settlement papers. The office. Saline County Tax Collector, Veteran Representative, 215 N. Main St., Suite 3, Benton 72015, 501-303-5620, or email the DAV specialist at [email protected]. A Bryant office is at 101 NW Third Street, Suite G.
