Robeson County Tax Administration: Disabled Veteran Exclusion

Robeson County's Property Tax Relief page takes the disabled veteran's exclusion - the first $45,000 of the appraised value of the permanent residence of a veteran with a service-connected, permanent and total disability or 38 U.S.C. 2101 benefits, or of an unmarried surviving spouse - on Form AV-9 with NCDVA-9 certification, no age or income test, filed in the January listing period and late applications accepted through June 1 as the county posts it.

Also called: property tax, disabled veteran, exclusion, $45,000, AV-9, NCDVA-9, Tax Administration, 910-671-3060, surviving spouse, circuit breaker, June 1, Lumberton, Pembroke, Maxton, Rowland, Fairmont, Red Springs, St. Pauls, Parkton, Shannon, Kelly, Hephzibah.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The county's own page (Property Tax Relief): "Veterans and surviving spouses may qualify for an exclusion of the first $45,000 of appraised value on their permanent residence." Its eligibility list: "Must be a North Carolina resident and occupy the property as a permanent residence. Applies to disabled veterans with an honorable or under-honorable discharge and either: VA certification of benefits under 38 U.S.C. 2101, or Certification of a service-connected, permanent, and total disability. Surviving spouses who have not remarried may also qualify if the veteran's death was service-connected or occurred in the line of duty. No age or income limit. Requires Form AV-9 and NCDVA-9 certification." When. "Applications should be filed during the regular listing period, but may be accepted through June 1, 2025. Applications received after June 1, 2025, are considered untimely." The forms route the page gives is the county's own: "Disabled Veteran: Form AV-9 (County) and NCDVA-9 Certification (VA)," with the state AV-9 PDF linked on the county's Tax Forms page and the Veteran Services office (910-671-3071) named as the VA-forms contact. What it saves. The county's posted tax-rate table has the 2025 county rate at $0.75 per $100 of appraised value (fire districts and municipalities add their own lines on the same table), so the full $45,000 exclusion removes about $337.50 of county property tax a year - a figure worked from the county's two published numbers, not one the county prints. Where the office is. Tax Administration, 550 North Chestnut Street, 2nd Floor, Lumberton, NC 28358 (the 2026 farm listing form and the tax landing page both print it), Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., 910-671-3060, [email protected]. The Tax Forms and Property Tax Relief pages also still print "Robeson County Tax Office, 500 N Elm St, Room 103" as published; both addresses are recorded as the county posts them. The county's older statement agrees. The 2018 county-wide reappraisal notice the county still posts works the same exclusion in the same terms (the first $45,000, either certification path, no age or income limitation, "you may request an application from the Tax Administrator's Office anytime"), which is where this entry's county-side details come from; the State's rules govern (see the North Carolina entry, G.S. 105-277.1C).
