Richland County Auditor: Disabled Veteran Homestead Exemption

The Auditor takes the State's disabled veteran homestead application, DTE 105I, but Richland County publishes no homestead page at all - richlandcountyauditor.org and .com are a law firm's page and a parked domain - so the reduction is the State's own, $59,400 for tax year 2026; whether the commissioners adopted the 319.304 local option cannot be checked, because the board publishes no minutes.

Also called: homestead, property tax, DTE 105I, county auditor, Patrick Dropsey, unemployability, 323.152, 100%, House Bill 479, local option, 319.304.

For: Veteran or service member, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The exemption is the State's, under Revised Code 323.152(A)(2); see the Ohio entry. File DTE 105I, with a copy of the DD-214 and the VA award letter, with the Richland County Auditor, Patrick W. Dropsey, 50 Park Avenue East, Mansfield (419-774-5501), after January 1 and by December 31 of the year the exemption is wanted. There is no income test for the disabled veteran exemption. The gap. The Auditor's web pages carry no homestead content at all - no homestead page, no DTE forms, no dollar figure - and the auditor's Forms and Documents page is an empty shell. The domains richlandcountyauditor.org (a birth-injury law firm's page) and richlandcountyauditor.com (a parked domain) are not the auditor. So the figures are the State's: $58,000 of market value for tax year 2025 and $59,400 for tax year 2026 real property, the year now being filed, under Revised Code 323.152(A)(2) and 323.151. Section 323.151(F) counts a veteran paid at the 100 per cent rate for individual unemployability, so a veteran with a lower schedular rating but IU compensation qualifies and should file DTE 105I with the unemployability decision. The auditor does publish one veteran-adjacent item: a scanned warning about YouTube videos selling a fake federal "Senior Homeowner Tax Review Request", read here by OCR, which names "qualifying disabled veterans" among the homestead categories and adds that current homestead recipients receive a one-time, state-funded property tax reduction in 2027 under House Bill 479 without a separate application. The local option. House Bill 96 let each board of county commissioners add a county homestead credit equal to the State one, without State reimbursement (Revised Code 319.304). Richland County's commissioners publish no agendas, minutes or journal online, so their adoption or refusal cannot be checked from their own records; nothing on the county's or auditor's pages names 319.304 or House Bill 96 either way, so a veteran should ask the auditor's office whether the county credit applies.
