Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

What the county posts. Real County's site has no veterans page and names no veterans service officer; its home page links only the VA's "Make the Connection" mental-health site under "Veterans' Mental Health Resources". The FY 2026-2027 adopted budget (October 1, 2026 to September 30, 2027, adopted September 14, 2026) keeps General Fund department 0513, "Veterans Services Officer", at $7,400: $150 for office supplies, $750 for travel and meals, $750 for lodging, $500 for education, $250 for computer expense and $5,000 of capital outlay, the last added between the August 5, 2026 workshop draft and the amended proposed budget heard on September 14. Its salary lines - "Salary/Leakey" and "Salary/Rocksprings" (Rocksprings is the seat of Edwards County) - are zero, as in FY 2026, when the department's $2,400 had not been spent when the budget was printed, and FY 2025, when it spent nothing. A county of under 200,000 people is not required to keep an officer (Government Code 434.032; see the Texas entry). TexVet. TexVet's county list names Derrick Hutchinson for Real, 830-900-8884, [email protected], an address on the county's own domain. No county page or agenda read names him or says where or when he meets veterans, so call first. Where no officer is available, the Texas Veterans Commission's claims counselors help any veteran free (see the Texas entry). County contacts. The County Judge's office, Judge Bella A. Rubio, Real County Courthouse, 146 Highway 83 South, P.O. Box 446, Leakey, Texas 78873, 830-232-5304, [email protected]. The County Clerk records discharges (see real-tx-county-clerk-discharges).
