Under "Military Discharge DD-214" the Clerk's page cites Local Government Code 192.002 and Government Code 552.140 and says: "DD-214 records are confidential for 75 years following the date it is recorded." Those who may have a copy: the veteran; the spouse, child or parent, or, if none is living, the nearest living relative; the veteran's legal guardian; a person named in a power of attorney under the Estates Code; the personal representative of the estate; another governmental body; and the funeral home assisting with the burial. "There is no cost to request a DD-214 certified copy." Mailed requests go to 220 W. Quitman Street, Suite B, with a photocopy of a valid ID, and "THE FORM MUST BE NOTARIZED." The broken form.
