Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The City of Quincy grants the veterans’ exemptions of G.L. c. 59, s. 5, clauses 22 to 22F, through its board of assessors. The statute sets them as dollars off the tax bill, $400 under clause 22, $750, $1,250 and $1,500 under 22A to 22C and $1,000 under 22E, and exempts the whole domicile under 22D and 22F; a city can add to them only by accepting a local option, clause 22I, clause 22J or section 5C½. Every figure on this entry carries its source and the day it was read. The Assessors Department’s fiscal 2027 exemptions brochure and veterans’ application print $845.43 under clause 22 (a rating of 10 percent or more, a Purple Heart, or a surviving spouse), $1,585.17 under 22A, $2,641.96 under 22B, $3,170.35 under 22C and $2,113.57 under 22E, and full exemption under 22D, 22H and for a paraplegic veteran. Each is the statutory amount raised by the Department of Revenue’s clause 22I adjustments for fiscal 2026 and 2027 (2.9 and 2.7 percent) and then doubled, which is clause 22I with clause 22J at 100 percent. The brochure names neither clause, and the council vote was not found online. Quincy asks for two consecutive years’ Massachusetts domicile before filing, or six months before entering service, for clauses 22 to 22E, as the statute now does. Chapter 115 benefits, the Commonwealth’s needs-based help with rent, food, fuel and medical costs, are applied for through Quincy Office of Veterans’ Services. Their amounts are set by the Commonwealth and are the same in every city and town; the statewide chapter 115 entry describes them.

GateRule
A VA rating, a decoration, or a surviving relativeClause 22 reaches a veteran rated 10 percent or more, a Purple Heart recipient, a Gold Star parent and the spouse or unmarried surviving spouse; 22A to 22E turn on named losses, decorations, a 100 percent rating or specially adapted housing. The rating filter does not hide this entry, because several routes need no rating.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
