Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Queen Anne's County Code section 5-10.6, Ordinance 18-10 of 2018, gives a credit to an individual who is at least 65 and is "an honorably discharged and either disabled or retired member" of the uniformed services as defined in 10 U.S.C. 101, the military reserves, or the National Guard. It includes the surviving spouse of such a member who has not remarried. The code sets no minimum disability rating and no income or home value limit. The credit is 20% of the county real property tax on the principal residence, owned in fee simple. Since Ordinance 23-04 of 2023 the owner must have lived on the property for 24 months before the credit begins. It starts on the July 1 after the application is approved and has no fixed end; it stops when the home is sold, when it is no longer the principal residence, or on the death of the veteran and of any surviving spouse. The Department of Budget, Finance and Information Technology handles applications and audits the credits every year. The code does not say what "disabled" means or how it is shown. A veteran with a VA service-connected rating should send the rating letter with the application, and ask the department if the rating is low.
