Pulaski County Vehicle License Fee Exemptions

Pulaski County collects vehicle license fees - the adopted FY2026-2027 revenue budget books $605,000 of motor vehicle license revenue - but posts neither the fee amount nor a veteran exemption. Section 46.2-755(B) bars the fee on the one vehicle of a veteran with Disabled Veteran plates and on the qualifying vehicles of decorated veterans.

Also called: license fee, decal, registration fee, 46.2-755, POW, Medal of Honor, car tax.

For: Veteran or service member.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Pulaski County Treasurer collects vehicle license fees; the Finance Department's adopted FY2026-2027 revenue budget books $605,000 of motor vehicle license revenue, against $27,850,000 of real estate tax. The county's site posts no fee amount and no schedule of exemptions, and the county code is not in the Municode library (the code there is the Town of Pulaski's), so the amount and its terms could not be read. The state bar in section 46.2-755(B) of the Code of Virginia (a Commonwealth entry) prohibits a county license fee on the one vehicle of a veteran with Disabled Veteran plates and on the qualifying vehicles of former prisoners of war and Medal of Honor, Purple Heart and Bronze Star recipients, so those veterans owe no Pulaski fee regardless of what the county ordinance says. A veteran who is billed one anyway should ask the Treasurer at 540-980-7785 and cite section 46.2-755(B).
