Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The assessor’s tax exemption page requires the DD-214 with the Town Clerk by September 30 and says a veteran with a VA disability rating should file the award letter, with “the standard exemption … increased, up to a maximum of $5,250 off the assessed value of either real estate or a motor vehicle.” A veteran rated permanently and totally disabled through service “is entitled to exemption of either a dwelling that is their permanent residence or one motor vehicle,” which the page dates to new legislation effective October 1, 2024. For low income veterans the page says “The Town of Preston also offers a Local Option additional Exemption,” filed on the town’s Application for Additional Veterans Exemption Section 12-81F with proof of income between February 1 and October 1. The application’s own text still points at the 2010 calendar year’s return and prints no amount; OLR’s 2023 survey recorded Preston as offering the 12-81f option at $10,000 with OPM’s income limits. The page also carries an Application for Motor Vehicle of a Service Person (Resident) and one for a non-resident. Preston’s former prestonct.org is dead and its site is www.prestonct.gov.
