What it is. An Arkansas county veterans service officer is employed by the county judge and paid from the Quorum Court's budget, trained and accredited through the Department of Veterans Affairs, and partly reimbursed by the State under section 20-81-106: one dollar for every two the county spends, up to $3,600 a year, or $4,800 in a county with more than 2,500 veterans, plus $500 a quarter each for VA accreditation and for access to VA's benefits system; see the Arkansas entry on the Department and county service officers. Help with a claim is free. Who and when. The Department of Veterans Affairs' county finder (last updated August 19, 2026) lists Sloane Henderson at 200 W. Courthouse Sq., Des Arc, AR 72040, (870) 530-5899, [email protected], Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The finder lists her for Monroe County as well (717 N. 11th St., Clarendon, Thursday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) and as the assistant in Lonoke County's office, and the phone number is the one Lonoke's office once listed for its Tuesday hours; call it to ask where she is on other days. The county has no website to compare. Prairie is in the Department's District 5, whose District Veterans Service Officer is Sue Harper in Monticello, (870) 623-6900. The County Judge, Lawrence Holloway, is at (870) 256-3741. The Quorum Court. No minutes are posted online. The 2026 budget the county filed on ARtransparency.gov (the county finance site the Association of Arkansas Counties runs for Act 564 of 2019) carries department 0800, Veterans Service Officer, in the County General fund at $17,678.60 for 2026 against $4,080 appropriated for 2025: $13,728 for one "Veteran's Svcs Ofcr" (as extra hire), with Social Security, retirement, health insurance and other matching. Monroe County's own 2026 budget pays its officer separately, so each county pays for its own days. The veterans court. None: the Seventeenth Circuit's plan names adult and juvenile drug courts that sit in White County and take Prairie County defendants, but no veterans court, and the Judiciary's veterans treatment court map does not shade Prairie.
