Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Texas counties may appoint a veteran county service officer under Government Code 434.032; see the Texas entries. Potter County has no veterans service office of its own, no page for one and no budget line for one. What it has, from the Commissioners' Court's minutes, is a run of appointments of officers who work from the Veterans Resource Center of Family Support Services, a private nonprofit in Amarillo: - April 13, 2026: the Court appointed Stephen Ross Dawson "as the Veteran's Service Officer for Potter County", 5-0. His résumé in the packet came through Family Support Services and lists earlier work as a veteran benefits claims officer at the Amarillo VA Medical Center. - June 8, 2026: the Court approved Courtney Ward as "a Veteran's Service Officer, volunteer for Potter County, working for veterans at the VRC at Family Support Services", 5-0, with Mr. Dawson explaining the item. - October 26, 2026 (on the agenda, not yet voted when this was read): the appointment of Ryan Sawyer as the Veteran's Service Officer, with a memorandum of understanding under which the Texas Veterans Commission would "Employ one (1) full-time TVC claims counselor" in office space, phone, internet and clerical help the county provides free at 2209 SW 7th Avenue, to help "any eligible veteran who served in the armed forces of the United States, as well as any dependent or survivor" prepare, file and carry claims for federal and Texas benefits. What the help is. Free help with VA compensation, pension, survivor and burial claims and with Texas benefits. No rating is needed to ask. Where. The State agreement gives the county's address for the office as 2209 SW 7th Avenue, Amarillo, TX 79106, which is also Family Support Services' address. The county publishes no phone number or hours for its officers; ask the County Judge's office, 500 South Fillmore, Suite 103 (806-379-2250), which carries the appointments to the Court, or the Texas Veterans Commission's call centre, 1-800-252-8387.
