Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The exemptions are the State's: Tax Code 11.22 (from $5,000 to $12,000 of value by rating from 10%) and 11.131 (the whole homestead at 100% or unemployability), with the surviving spouse routes; see the Texas entries. The Potter-Randall Appraisal District appraises for both counties and every taxing unit in them. What the district publishes. Its exemptions page gives the 11.22 table (10% to 29% $5,000; 30% to 49% $7,500; 50% to 69% $10,000; 70% and over $12,000), which "may be applied to any property owned by the disabled veteran", and the 11.131 total exemption for "a rating of 100% or ... individual unemployability", with the unremarried surviving spouse's carry-over to a later homestead; it says "All Districts grant this exemption" of both. The page cites "Texas Property Tax Code Section 11.13" for the total exemption, which is 11.131. Its FAQ: the 11.22 exemption needs ownership on January 1, but "You may qualify in the same year you purchase the property if you are 100% service-connected or unemployable"; exemptions do not move with a sale, so apply again on a new home with the VA letter; and the district "may be able to apply the exemption(s) for the previous tax year" on a late application (see the Texas entries for the statute's own late-filing windows). The page does not mention 11.132 or 11.133; see the Texas entries. How. File the Comptroller's form 50-135 (or the homestead application, through the district's online portal) with the VA rating letter and a driver's licence showing the home's address.
