Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Portage County Veterans Service is on the 1st Floor of the County-City Building, 1516 Church Street, Stevens Point WI 54481, phone (715) 346-1310, fax 715-346-1410, open Monday to Friday 7:30 a.m. to noon and 12:30 to 4 p.m., appointments recommended. The Veterans Service Officer is John Olson Jr., with benefit specialist Dan Sankey; the office holds VA accreditation through NACVSO, the American Legion, the DAV, the VFW and the state DVA. The aid, published. The county brands its 45.86 levy-funded aid the Veterans Relief Program: emergency, short-term, one-time grants for "housing, heat, medicine, and food", applied for with the VRF application PDF, a DD Form 214, verification of county residency and two recent bank statements. The Veterans Service Commission is codified at county code section 3.1.30 - three veteran members appointed by the County Executive to three-year terms, per diem allowed - but no award amounts are published anywhere. The van. A single DAV van with volunteer drivers runs to VA facilities in Tomah, Madison and Milwaukee plus clinics in Wisconsin Rapids, Wausau, Green Bay and Appleton, booked at least two weeks ahead at (608) 504-1313, with County Central Transportation ((715) 343-6307) as the backup. The register of deeds (Cynthia A Wisinski, (715) 346-1428) records discharges free under section 45.05, though the county's own recording pages never mention it. No veterans treatment court serves Portage County - a work group existed in 2018-2019 only - and all seventeen board agendas and minutes for the year read carry zero veteran mentions.
