Polk County's Veteran Services helps veterans and families claim VA benefits, free, by appointment at its Bartow main office and in Lake Alfred and Lake Wales, and without an appointment four days a week at the Lakeland VA clinic. Call 863-534-5220.

Polk County Veteran Services is the county's veterans service office; see the Florida entry on claims assistance. It helps veterans and their families claim VA benefits, including compensation, pension, Dependency and Indemnity Compensation, survivors' pension and burial benefits, and "our services are entirely free". It also runs the county's Active Military Combat Duty Grant (see that entry). Where. - Bartow main office, 1290 Golfview Avenue: by appointment. - Lakeland VA clinic, 2080 Meadowland Park Boulevard, office 2049: no appointment needed; a county service officer is there 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, and the Florida Department of Veterans' Affairs staffs it on Tuesdays. - Lake Alfred, 200 Government Center Boulevard: by appointment, Wednesdays and Thursdays. - Lake Wales, 201 W. Central Avenue: by appointment, Wednesdays. Book at 863-534-5220 or with the county's online request form.
