Plainfield Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions

Plainfield’s exemptions sheet gives a veteran who recorded a discharge with the Town Clerk by October 1 the state exemption and takes the state additional exemption for income-qualified veterans on a biennial application, and prints no local option.

Also called: property tax, 12-81g, veterans exemption, assessor, Plainfield.

For: Veteran or service member.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The assessor’s exemptions sheet requires a veteran who served more than 90 days in wartime, or who is disabled, to have recorded an honorable discharge with the Town Clerk by October 1 of any year to receive an exemption against the July tax bill. It prints no amount; the statutory wartime exemption is $1,000 of assessed value under 12-81(19), and a veteran with a VA rating receives $2,000 to $3,500 under 12-81(20) on a rating filed with the assessor. The sheet’s “Veteran’s Additional Exemption” increases the exemption for veterans who meet the necessary income requirements, filed with the assessor by October 1 of any year and reapplied every other year with proof of income. That is the state additional exemption of 12-81g(a), twice the exemption already received, for income under the 12-81l limit, $46,300 single and $56,500 married for the 2026 grand list. The sheet also prints an active duty exemption on one passenger motor vehicle for a Connecticut resident serviceperson, and, outside the veterans’ programs, $1,000 for Social Security disability, $3,000 for legal blindness and a full motor vehicle abatement for specially equipped vehicles applied through town ordinance. Plainfield answered OLR’s 2023 survey by reporting no municipal-option exemption of any kind, and no Plainfield ordinance granting one was found; the town’s site posts its charter but no code of ordinances.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
