Placer County Assessor: Disabled Veterans' Exemption
The Placer County Assessor already explains Senate Bill 296's 2027 exemption and will mail current claimants about it at the end of December 2026. Its eligibility list names only the 100% and unemployability routes, not blindness or the loss of the use of two limbs.
The exemption is the State's; the California entry gives the amounts, the income limit and Senate Bill 296's larger exemption from the January 1, 2027 lien date. The Placer County Assessor administers it (530-889-4300).
What the Assessor says. The exemption is for veterans "rated 100% disabled or 100% unemployable due to service connected injury or disease" and for unmarried surviving spouses of a qualifying veteran, of one whose death was service-connected, or of one who died on active duty. File form BOE-261-G with the full rating decision letter showing its effective date and a DD-214 showing a discharge other than dishonorable; a surviving spouse adds the marriage and death certificates and may send the DIC letter instead of the rating letter. The basic exemption is filed once; the low-income exemption every year by 5 p.m. on February 15, with the county's household income worksheet PCA-703. A claim is timely for a tax year if filed by December 31 of the year of the rating letter, or within 30 days of a supplemental assessment notice; later claims get a reduced amount, and refunds reach back to the current year plus seven prior years.
The 2027 change. The page already describes SB 296 and says current claimants will get a letter at the end of December explaining what, if anything, to do for 2027; no action is needed before then.
What it leaves out. Revenue and Taxation Code section 205.5 also qualifies a veteran blind in both eyes or who has lost the use of two or more limbs, at any rating. Such a veteran should file.
