Pittsburg County (Oklahoma) Assessor: the Exemption Application Route

The Pittsburg County Assessor's office under Cathy Ridenour takes the county's exemption applications - 'property exemptions, including homestead, veterans and low income double exemptions' - at the courthouse in McAlester, with no exemption text of its own, so the State's Form 998 route carries the 100% disabled veteran exemption.

Also called: homestead exemption, double exemption, disabled veteran, Form 998, Form 998-C, 100% disabled, Assessor, property tax, Article X 8E, Tax Commission, Cathy Ridenour, McAlester, McAlester, Krebs, Hartshorne, Quinton, Kiowa, Pittsburg, Crowder, Indianola, Savanna, Alderson.

For: Veteran or service member, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The exemption is the State's; see the Oklahoma entries on Article X, section 8E and Tax Commission Form 998 for the amounts and eligibility. Pittsburg County's Assessor publishes no exemption text of its own: the office page's duties list says the office "Takes application for property exemptions, including homestead, veterans and low income double exemptions" beside parcel mapping, the four-year OTC inspection schedule and the tax calculation delivered to the Treasurer. The county's Forms page carries the standard county forms, not the OTC veteran exemption forms. A veteran applying brings the VA's letter on Form 998; the county's Board of County Commissioners signs the annual Form 969 reimbursement claim for the exempted value (Creek County's 2025 claim, $325,385.00, is the pattern), and Pittsburg County's own claim appears in the Board's records when filed. The county's Veterans Service Office route (the ODVA Southeast Team) helps gather the VA letter. Where and who. Pittsburg County Assessor Cathy Ridenour, with First Deputy Lindsey Parker, at the Pittsburg County Courthouse, 115 East Carl Albert Parkway, McAlester; the office page's contact block is the courthouse's.
