The office. The county's Veteran Affairs page: "Physical Address: 25 W. Main Street, New Bloomfield PA 17068. Telephone: 717-582-5133. Hours: Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. 'Due to limited staffing, APPOINTMENTS ARE NECESSARY'." The State's county-directors list (as of August 3, 2026) carries the same office: "Perry - 25 W. Every Pennsylvania county must have a director of veterans affairs under the County Code; see the Pennsylvania entry on the statutory scheme and the director's VA accreditation under 51 Pa.C.S. 1731.
The transition. Jim Scott - an Air Force veteran who "retired from the Air National Guard after 23 years and from the Pennsylvania State Police as a lieutenant after nearly 38 years" - retired June 5, 2026 after ten years as director (the retirement accepted February 23, 2026; see the board's entry). His own message: "I just hope more veterans will come in, even if I'm not the one behind the desk. That's the key. There are benefits available, and many don't realize what they've earned." Brady Cramer was appointed effective May 26, 2026 at 27.91 dollars an hour (the May 18, 2026 minutes), and the county recognized Scott's ten years on December 15, 2025: he "thanked the commissioners and county staff for their support, saying that the past decade had gone by quickly and that it had been an honor to work with county employees and veterans ... finding a job one truly enjoys makes work feel less like work."
The building. The office sits in the Veterans Memorial Building at 25 W. Main Street - the county's fiscal office and meeting place carry the same name - while the courthouse itself is at 2 East Main Street (P) 717.582.2131.
The burial side. The county's County Benefits page: "County burial allowances are provided to veterans and spouses of deceased veterans as indicated in the County Code. A burial benefit of $100.00 is payable towards the funeral expense of an honorably discharged veteran. The veteran must be a legal resident of Perry County at the time of his or her death. The widow or widower is also entitled to a $100.00 burial benefit if a resident of Perry County. Application for the burial allowance must be made within one year after the date of his or her death and the application is usually initiated by the funeral home director." And: "The Veterans Affairs Office assists local funeral homes in the payment of burial allowances for eligible veterans and their families." A county grave marker is likewise provided under the County Code.
