What it is. An Arkansas county veterans service officer is employed by the county judge and paid from the Quorum Court's budget, trained and accredited through the Department of Veterans Affairs, and partly reimbursed by the State under section 20-81-106: one dollar for every two the county spends, up to $3,600 a year, or $4,800 in a county with more than 2,500 veterans, plus $500 a quarter each for VA accreditation and for access to VA's benefits system; see the Arkansas entry on the Department and county service officers. Help with a claim is free. Who and when. The county's Veterans page: Steve Lamb, phone (501) 889-2096, fax (501) 889-1998, [email protected], "Tuesday and Wednesday, all other days are by appointment only", 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., 204 Main St, Perryville, AR 72126. The Department of Veterans Affairs' county finder (last updated August 19, 2026) lists Steven Lamb at 208 Main St., Perryville, with the same phone and email and hours of Tuesday to Friday 8:00 a.m. to noon. The two disagree on the street number and the days; call before going in. The county's code (section 240.08, Ordinance 1989-006) still sets the hours of the "Civil Defense/Veteran's Affairs" office at 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. four days a week, posted at the office and the courthouse. Perry is in the Department's District 1, which has no District Veterans Service Officer at present; the Department asks veterans there to call it at (501) 683-2382 to be put in touch with the nearest available officer. The County Judge, Larry Blackmon, is at 310 West Main Street, Suite 101, (501) 889-5128. The Quorum Court. The Court meets on the second Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at the Perry County Courts Building; no minutes or budget are posted, so the office's appropriation is not published.
