Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The office. The Pawnee County Veterans Service Office is at 625 6th Street, Pawnee City, NE 68420 (the courthouse, first floor, in the State's directory; mail PO Box 113), phone (402) 852-2777, [email protected], open Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. to noon. The office posts a calendar of its hours each month on the county's page; the November 2026 schedule marks normal hours except a day closed for a medical appointment. The page says the office "assists veterans and their dependents in obtaining information about any V.A. benefits", works up applications and supporting documents, and helps veterans apply for VA medical center eligibility. Its County Benefits page lists county veterans aid (see that entry), a bronze grave flag holder, registration of DD-214s, homestead help, electronic registration of a veteran's death, and the State's burial information memo. The officer. Larry Bradbury resigned as officer effective January 31, 2025 (January 7, 2025). On February 4, 2025 Dale Buman, for Veterans Services, told the Board that the Veteran's Service Board was unanimous on an applicant, and the Board approved its recommendation; on February 19, 2025 it appointed James Duff as Pawnee County Veterans Service Officer. The Board's year. On April 14, 2026 the Board approved Mr. Duff's request to use the courthouse for an event recognizing Korean War veterans; on June 9, 2026 it appointed Sandra Stephens to the Pawnee County Veterans Services Committee Board; and on September 29, 2026 it signed the Tyler Technologies memorandum for the office's filing software ($504.50 in the October 14, 2026 claims). The county's job application says positions are "subject to a veteran's preference" and asks a veteran or qualifying spouse to claim it with a DD-214 (see the Nebraska entries on the preference). Homestead certification. The Assessor's homestead FAQ, under "How do I qualify as a Disabled Veteran or their Widow?", lists the exemptions for a veteran totally disabled by a non-service-connected illness or accident, each "(annual certification required)", and sends the veteran to the Veterans Service Office first for a physician's form and the office's certification. The application under section 77-3508 is annual, but 77-3508(1)(c) says the medical certification need not be repeated when the condition has not changed, though the assessor may ask for it again (see the Nebraska entries). The money. The office (0100-803) spent $20,577.20 in 2023-2024 and $22,215.31 in 2024-2025, and the 2025-2026 budget adopts $22,032.20, the officer's $18,907.20 salary among it.
