Pasquotank County (North Carolina) Tax Administration: the Disabled Veteran Exclusion Route

For: Veteran or service member, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The exclusions are the State's; see the North Carolina entries on G.S. 105-277.1 (the elderly or disabled exclusion) and G.S. 105-277.1C (the disabled veteran exclusion) for the amounts and eligibility. What the county's Tax Office adds is the route and the window: its FAQ asks "Does Pasquotank County offer a Homestead Exclusion?" and answers: "North Carolina offers an Elderly or Disabled Exemption. To apply, you must be 65 or older as of January 1st or totally and permanently disabled, a permanent resident at your home in Pasquotank County, and a household income (combined income if married) of less than $30,200 (Income from all sources, including any Social Security). There is also the Circuit Breaker Tax Deferment Program and Disabled Veteran Exclusion. Please contact our office for additional information and requirements on these programs as the income requirements can change each year." The FAQ's $30,200 income limit is itself years out of date: the statute compounds the limit with Social Security COLAs each year, and the current figure is $38,800 on 2025 income for 2026, which matters to a veteran whose income falls between the two. The office's forms page carries the county's "Application for Property Tax Relief" and "Property Tax Exemption or Exclusion" among its downloadable forms, beside the listing forms and the motor vehicle exemption application. The Tax Administrator's mailing address is the Pasquotank County Tax Administrator's Office, PO Box 586, Elizabeth City. The office accepts cash, personal checks or online payments (officialpayments.com, jurisdiction code 4399, or 1-800-272-9829). The annual listing period is January: "Taxpayers are required to list personal property (such as mobile homes, boats, untagged motor vehicles, etc.) they own as of January 1st each year."
