Pasco County Property Appraiser: Veteran Exemptions

The Pasco County Property Appraiser's 2024 brochure describes Florida's veteran exemptions as the statutes do, including the combat discount at the whole permanent rating and combat medals as evidence. It cites the active-duty death exemption to section 196.081(6), the first responder subsection; the veteran's is 196.081(4).

Also called: property tax, property appraiser, PCPA, 196.081, 196.24, 196.082, 196.173, DR-501DV, DR-501M, March 1.

For: Veteran or service member, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The exemptions are the State's; the Florida entries explain them. The Pasco County Property Appraiser grants them from offices in Dade City (352-521-4433), Land O' Lakes (813-929-2780) and New Port Richey (727-847-8151). Its website's veterans tab opens its brochure, last revised in May 2024. What it asks for. For the $5,000 exemption, a federal or VA certificate (VA form letter 27-125); a surviving spouse adds the marriage and death certificates. For the total and permanent exemption, a VA letter (form 27-333) or one from the service branch or federal government stating an honorable discharge and a service-connected total and permanent disability. For the combat discount, the VA certificate of the percentage, evidence the disability or part of it is combat related, for example combat service medals or a VA rating decision, and proof of an honorable discharge. For the deployment exemption, form DR-501M with orders or other proof of the dates. Readings that match the law. The brochure sets the combat discount at "the percentage of the veteran's permanent, service-connected disability", and accepts combat medals as evidence, as section 196.082(4) allows. Citation slip. The brochure cites the full exemption for the surviving spouse of a veteran who died on active duty, together with the first responder exemption, as "FS 196.081(6)". Subsection (6) is the first responder exemption; the veteran's is subsection (4). The brochure predates chapter 2026-239; for the deployment exemption's 2026 operations see the Florida entry.
