Palmer Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions (Clauses 22 to 22F)

Palmer’s assessors post no exemption amounts, so this entry gives the statute’s: $400 for a veteran rated 10 percent or more, $750 to $1,500 under 22A to 22C, $1,000 for a 100 percent rating, and full exemption under 22D and 22F.

Also called: property tax, clause 22, 22E, veterans exemption, assessors, Palmer.

For: Veteran or service member, spouse, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Town of Palmer grants the veterans’ exemptions of G.L. c. 59, s. 5, clauses 22 to 22F, through its board of assessors. The statute sets them as dollars off the tax bill, $400 under clause 22, $750, $1,250 and $1,500 under 22A to 22C and $1,000 under 22E, and exempts the whole domicile under 22D and 22F; a town can add to them only by accepting a local option, clause 22I, clause 22J or section 5C½. Every figure on this entry carries its source and the day it was read. The Assessor’s Office page describes the office and its board and prints no clause amount, so the figures here are the statute’s; no acceptance was found on the town’s site. The Veterans’ Services page names Eric Segundo the Director of Veterans’ Affairs of the Ludlow and Palmer Veterans Services Office at the Town Administration Building, 4417 Main Street (413-283-2610), where the EOVS directory lists the same officer. Chapter 115 benefits, the Commonwealth’s needs-based help with rent, food, fuel and medical costs, are applied for through Palmer Veterans’ Services: Eric Segundo, Director of Veterans’ Affairs (Ludlow and Palmer office). Their amounts are set by the Commonwealth and are the same in every city and town; the statewide chapter 115 entry describes them.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
