Page County Real Estate Tax Relief for the Elderly and Disabled

Page County exempts 100, 50 or 25 percent of the real estate tax of an owner 65 or totally disabled by bands of the Page County median household income, with net worth to $114,000, on an application filed January 1 through April 1.

Also called: tax relief, property tax, elderly and disabled, median household income, net worth, $114,000.

For: Veteran or service member.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The county's Tax Relief page sets the program. The applicant must be 65 or older, or totally disabled, on December 31 of the year preceding the taxable year. "Total combined income cannot exceed the median household income for Page County, according to the most recent U.S. Census Bureau report", and total net worth "cannot exceed $114,000". The exemption is a percentage of the tax by income band: 100 percent where income is $0 to 40 percent of the county median household income, 50 percent from 41 to 50 percent, 25 percent from 51 to 60 percent, and nothing from 61 to 100 percent. Applications are filed annually between January 1 and April 1, and the page notes the program "is not a deferred tax; survivors will not be penalized nor will they incur taxes for past years reduction(s)". The county publishes no dollar figure for the current median household income on the page, so the working cutoff moves with each Census release; the Commissioner's office at 540-743-4909 applies the current one. It is not a VA rating of 100% service-connected, and a disabled veteran who does not meet that test can use it.
