Oxford Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions (Clauses 22 to 22F)

Oxford’s Tax Relief Options page lists the veterans’ clauses without an amount, so this entry gives the statute’s.

Also called: property tax, clause 22, 22E, veterans exemption, assessors, Oxford.

For: Veteran or service member, spouse, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Town of Oxford grants the veterans’ exemptions of G.L. c. 59, s. 5, clauses 22 to 22F, through its board of assessors. The statute sets them as dollars off the tax bill, $400 under clause 22, $750, $1,250 and $1,500 under 22A to 22C and $1,000 under 22E, and exempts the whole domicile under 22D and 22F; a town can add to them only by accepting a local option, clause 22I, clause 22J or section 5C½. Every figure on this entry carries its source and the day it was read. The Board of Assessors’ page names Mary Petro the chair, Robert W. Fike and Claire D. Wilson the members, David Manzello the Regional Assessor and Mary Petro the Assistant Assessor, at 325 Main Street (508-987-6038, extension 1051). The Exemption - Seniors, Disabled Veterans & Hardships page, an overview of the town’s 2027 tax relief options, lists “Veteran - Clause 22, 22A-22F” among the personal exemptions the statutes provide, beside clauses 37, 41C, 17D and the 41A deferral, without an amount of the town’s own; it mails applications to repeat applicants in August and points new applicants to the office for the form with its clause inserts, so the figures here are the statute’s. No acceptance of clause 22I or 22J was found on the town’s site. The Veteran Services page names David Adams the Veterans’ Agent at 323 Main Street (508-987-6034, extension 1105, with an additional 405-249-6724 printed), where the EOVS directory lists Dave Adams at the Community Center, 325 Main Street, with the same extension, and describes the department’s mission to aid veterans and their families through the VA and the Department of Veterans Services with financial and medical assistance under chapter 115 and 108 CMR, beside the state’s motor-vehicle sales and excise exemptions, the $2,000 annuity and the Women Veterans Network. The town’s Senior Tax Work-Off Program, approved at the May 2017 Annual Town Meeting, is open to property owners 60 or older only, so it is not the veterans’ work-off. Chapter 115 benefits, the Commonwealth’s needs-based help with rent, food, fuel and medical costs, are applied for through Oxford Veteran Services: David Adams, Veterans’ Agent. Their amounts are set by the Commonwealth and are the same in every city and town; the statewide chapter 115 entry describes them.

A VA rating, a decoration, or a surviving relativeClause 22 reaches a veteran rated 10 percent or more, a Purple Heart recipient, a Gold Star parent and the spouse or unmarried surviving spouse; 22A to 22E turn on named losses, decorations, a 100 percent rating or specially adapted housing. The rating filter does not hide this entry, because several routes need no rating.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
