Orange Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions (Clauses 22 to 22F)

Orange’s own FY2026 Property Tax Exemption Qualifications sheet prints the statutes line by line - $400 under clause 22 to $1,500 under 22C and $1,000 under 22E, full under 22D - so this entry gives the statute’s; its site has no veterans’ services page, and the EOVS directory’s row serves it from the Athol office, Lisa O’Sullivan the officer.

Also called: property tax, clause 22, 22E, veterans exemption, assessors, Orange.

For: Veteran or service member, spouse, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Town of Orange grants the veterans’ exemptions of G.L. c. 59, s. 5, clauses 22 to 22F, through its board of assessors. The statute sets them as dollars off the tax bill, $400 under clause 22, $750, $1,250 and $1,500 under 22A to 22C and $1,000 under 22E, and exempts the whole domicile under 22D and 22F; a town can add to them only by accepting a local option, clause 22I, clause 22J or section 5C½. Every figure on this entry carries its source and the day it was read. The Assessors’ page names Lisa Elliott, Cynthia Brown and George Hunt the board, at 6 Prospect Street (978-544-1100, extension 108, fax 978-544-1120), open Tuesday and Thursday 8 am to 4:30 pm and Wednesday 8 am to 7 pm, closed Monday and Friday. Its Document Center posts the town’s own "FY2026 Town of Orange Property Tax Exemption Qualifications" sheet: $400 under clause 22 for wartime service-connected disability, $750 under 22A for the loss of use of a hand, foot or eye and for the Medal of Honor, Distinguished Service Cross, Navy Cross or Air Force Cross, $1,250 under 22B and $1,500 under 22C, "FULL" under 22D and $1,000 under 22E - the statutes - beside 41C at $500.00, clauses 17 and 17C at $175.00 and 37A at $500.00, applications due 04/01/2026. No acceptance of clause 22I or 22J was found on the site, so the figures here are the statute’s, and the sheet’s 22D line still asks the deceased veteran’s spouse to have "lived in Massachusetts for five consecutive years", the older test. The town’s site has no veterans’ services page: its boards are the Trustees of Soldiers Memorial (James Reardon, Steven Rowe and Douglas Jillson the veterans, Michelle LeBlanc and Barbara Polan the non-veterans, 978-544-1100, extension 106) and the Council on Aging’s programs, so this entry points at the directory itself, whose September 7, 2026 Orange row lists Lisa O’Sullivan at 584 Main Street, Athol (978-249-6935, [email protected]) - the Athol office whose own page, as the Athol entry records, gives 978-721-8534. Chapter 115 benefits, the Commonwealth’s needs-based help with rent, food, fuel and medical costs, are applied for through Orange Veterans’ Services: Lisa O’Sullivan, the Athol office (EOVS directory). Their amounts are set by the Commonwealth and are the same in every city and town; the statewide chapter 115 entry describes them.

GateRule
A VA rating, a decoration, or a surviving relativeClause 22 reaches a veteran rated 10 percent or more, a Purple Heart recipient, a Gold Star parent and the spouse or unmarried surviving spouse; 22A to 22E turn on named losses, decorations, a 100 percent rating or specially adapted housing. The rating filter does not hide this entry, because several routes need no rating.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
