Onondaga County Parks: Free Admission for Veterans and Active Military
Onondaga County Parks admits veterans and active military free at Beaver Lake Nature Center, Jamesville Beach, Oneida Shores and Pratt's Falls, and with up to three family members at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo, on a military ID, discharge papers or the County FAVOR card. The local law behind it is for county residents.
Also called: parks, Rosamond Gifford Zoo, zoo, Beaver Lake, Jamesville Beach, Oneida Shores, Pratt's Falls, Lights on the Lake, Local Law 6-2014, FAVOR card, free admission.
Local Law 6 of 2014 lets the Parks Commissioner waive admission for veterans and active military members "where such individuals are also Onondaga County residents": per vehicle, for everyone in the car; per person, for the member and up to three immediate family members. Proof is a DD-214 showing an honorable discharge or the County Clerk's FAVOR card for a veteran, or a military ID for an active member, with proof of residence.
What Parks offers now. Free admission for a veteran, an active member or an active member's spouse, with the veteran present: one vehicle at Beaver Lake Nature Center (not during the Golden Harvest Festival or Enchanted Beaver Lake), Jamesville Beach and Oneida Shores; the member and up to three family members at Pratt's Falls; and up to four people at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo. Veterans, active military and their families also get in free to Sportsmen's Days at Carpenter's Brook in September and the Salute the Troops opening night of Lights on the Lake in November. Carpenter's Brook, Highland Forest and Onondaga Lake Park charge no admission. Programmes, rentals, boat launches and other special events are not covered.
Parks' page accepts "military I.D., Onondaga County FAVOR card, discharge papers or another form of official military identification" and does not mention residence, but the local law limits the waiver to county residents; carry proof of address.
