Where it applies

Minnesota's veterans courts run under section 609.1056, subdivision 5; see the Minnesota entry. The Judicial Branch's list of operational treatment courts names the "Third Judicial District: Dodge-Fillmore-Freeborn-Houston-Mower-Olmsted-Rice-Steele-Wabasha-Waseca-Winona Counties (2019)" veterans treatment court. The Branch's release of September 13, 2024, on the court's fifth anniversary: "Veterans Treatment Court is a voluntary 15-to-18-month program in which a judge leads a multidisciplinary team of professionals to collaboratively assist the veteran defendant with an array of services - from emergency financial assistance, to chemical dependency and mental health/trauma counseling, to employment training assistance and temporary housing." It had helped 90 veterans in five years. Volunteer veteran mentors attend every session. "To manage the logistics of serving such a large area, the court holds morning sessions at the Olmsted County Court on the east side of the district, and afternoon sessions in the Steele County Courthouse." The release named Judge Ross Leuning as lead judge and Monty Vikdal, of Freeborn County, as coordinator; ask Olmsted County court administration or your lawyer for the current coordinator.
