Old Lyme Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions

Old Lyme’s assessor describes the 12-81 exemptions without amounts in the town’s veterans description, requires the DD-214 by September 30, and posts the D-2 and active duty forms.

Also called: property tax, 12-81g, veterans exemption, assessor, Old Lyme.

For: Veteran or service member, spouse.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The assessor’s page and its Full Description of All Benefits Available to Active Duty and Veterans give the qualifying rules: for “any of the applicable exemptions under Section 12-81,” the DD-214 filed in the Town Clerk’s office by September 30 and wartime service as defined in section 27-103; a 12-81g increase for a qualified veteran meeting income requirements; and an additional exemption for disabled veterans on the filing of a VA rating, with proof of a 100 percent permanent and total rating under the new exemption due with the assessor by March 31 under 12-95 as amended by P.A. 24-46, § 3. No amounts are printed. The description’s 12-81(83) section copies the law: from October 1, 2024, updated October 1, 2025, the dwelling or one motor vehicle, with the spouse’s property eligible where the veteran owns neither, and the annual OPM claim due January 1 under 12-93. Its active-duty section requires a current earning and leave statement or a command letter with a yearly application, Connecticut residents filing prior to December 31, on the Active Duty CT Resident and Active Duty Non-Resident forms the assessor posts. Old Lyme answered OLR’s 2023 survey but gave no amount for its 12-81f option (“No response” in the report’s table). The town’s code is on eCode360 (OL1929), behind its Cloudflare challenge (dubiousenvelope/vettoc issue 168).

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
