Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Board of County Commissioners created the Department of Veteran Services; see the Florida entry on claims assistance. It gives veterans and their dependents assistance, information and counselling for "filing, developing and appealing claims pertaining to the full spectrum of veterans' entitlements", and its outreach programme visits homebound clients and nursing homes, which the department says helps older veterans and surviving spouses most. Its budget papers list compensation and ancillary benefits, pension, Dependency and Indemnity Compensation, survivors pension, burial benefits and transport for disabled veterans. Offices. South County: 1250 N. Eglin Parkway, Suite 302 (third floor), Shalimar 32579, Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. (850-651-7258). North County: 302 N. Wilson Street, Suite 301, Crestview 32536, Tuesdays and Fridays, same hours (850-689-5922). Email [email protected]. Rides to VA care. The department's older About page says it schedules the DAV van for veterans with appointments at the VA clinic in Pensacola, leaving Crestview, Niceville and Fort Walton Beach on Wednesdays and Fridays when needed. The same page gives Crestview hours of Tuesday and Thursday and a Fort Walton Beach office the current page does not list, so confirm the van and the hours by phone.
