Oklahoma Veterans Homes

Seven state veterans homes, in Ardmore, Claremore, Clinton, Lawton, Norman, Sallisaw and Sulphur, provide long-term nursing care to veterans who qualify for the VA state home per diem, generally with 90 days of active duty. A veteran rated 70 percent or more pays nothing; others pay from income, but no wartime veteran may be refused for inability to pay.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Department of Veterans Affairs says Oklahoma is "among the top two states in the number of Veterans Centers". Where. The Oklahoma Department of Veterans Affairs lists homes at Ardmore, Claremore, Clinton, Lawton, Norman, Sallisaw and Sulphur. Its page in September 2026 said all were admitting except that Norman was taking memory care only and Sallisaw has no memory care. Sallisaw replaced Talihina under Title 72, sections 229.1 and 229.2, and a replacement home for Ardmore is authorized. Claremore alone has 302 beds and a 52-bed dementia unit. Who is admitted. Oklahoma Administrative Code 770:10-1-3: the applicant must be "certified by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs for receipt of per diem payment", must have served at least 90 days on active duty unless discharged for a service-connected disability, and must be disabled "by age, disease or other reason" to a degree needing intermediate or skilled nursing care. Rule 770:10-1-4 sets the waiting list: World War II veterans first, then former prisoners of war, then wartime veterans rated 70 to 100 percent, other wartime veterans, then other veterans in the same order. Spouses and surviving spouses are admitted only when no eligible veteran is waiting. What it costs. Federal law, 38 U.S.C. 1745, pays a state home the full rate for a veteran rated 70 percent or more or needing care for a service-connected condition, and the department says that since June 1, 2009 such veterans "will receive full cost of care" at any Oklahoma home. For everyone else, Title 72, section 63.5 sets a charge from all personal income including VA pension and aid and attendance, computed to maximise VA benefits, leaving the veteran at least $150 a month and never more than the full cost of care less the VA per diem. The unpaid balance is a claim against the estate. But "no admission of a veteran of a period of war... shall be limited or conditioned in any manner by the lack of ability to pay". How to apply. Complete the department's application for admission with VA Form 10-10EZ and the DD-214, and call the admissions office.
