Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Title 72, section 412: "Subject to the availability of funds", the Department of Veterans Affairs runs a special housing grant "not to exceed Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000.00) per veteran" for the costs VA does not cover of a home specially designed for a disabled veteran. The conditions. The veteran must be approved for VA's Specially Adapted Housing grant, or have used it up; must "have been a resident of the state before entering active service"; must live in Oklahoma when the federal grant is approved and when the state grant is applied for and paid; and must be building, buying or remodelling a permanent home in Oklahoma. The state never pays more than the federal share, pays through VA's regional office into escrow, and pays each veteran only once, from the Oklahoma Veteran Housing Program Revolving Fund. The residence-at-entry test shuts out a veteran who moved to Oklahoma after service, however long ago. A VA specially adapted housing grant requires a qualifying loss of use or similar service-connected disability; ask the Department of Veterans Affairs whether the fund has money before relying on it.
