What the county posts. Ochiltree County's site - its menus, department pages and the contact page's list of numbers for county services - has no veterans page and names no veterans service officer. How the county funds it. The 2026-2027 budget (October 1, 2026 to September 30, 2027, approved September 28, 2026, with Commissioner DeWitt absent and the other four members voting for it) keeps General Fund department 405, "Veterans Service Expenses", at $4,700: $1,400 of travel allowance, $400 of office supplies, $400 of out-of-county travel, $2,000 of conferences and seminars and $500 of non-capital equipment. It has no salary line, and the 2025-2026 budget carried the same $4,700. The Court's budget workshop of June 22, 2026 took up "Veteran Services" with other offices. A county of under 200,000 people is not required to keep an officer (Government Code 434.032; see the Texas entry). TexVet. TexVet's county list names Dempsey Malaney for Ochiltree, at 806-435-8059, [email protected] - an address on the same ochiltree.net domain as the County Judge's. No county page or agenda read names him or says where or when he meets veterans, so call first. Where no officer is available, the Texas Veterans Commission's claims counselors help any veteran free (see the Texas entry). County contacts. The County Judge's office, Judge Charles Kelly (court administrator Dena Cator), Ochiltree County Courthouse, 511 S. Main St., Suite 5, Perryton, Texas 79070; (806) 435-8031; [email protected]. The courthouse is open Monday to Thursday 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., and Friday 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The County Clerk records discharges and issues copies free (see ochiltree-tx-county-clerk-discharges).
