Nye County Veterans Service Office (Nye and Esmeralda Counties)

Unlike Clark and Washoe, Nye runs a Veterans Service Office of its own, serving Nye and Esmeralda counties free of charge. The officer the county lists is a Nevada Department of Veterans Services employee; the Board's August 4, 2026 agenda funds a VSO office in the Desert View Hospital lobby in Pahrump from the county's Veterans Services Fund.

Also called: VSO, veterans service office, claims help, NDVS, Brandi Matheny, Esmeralda, Tonopah, Pahrump, Desert View Hospital, Veterans Services Fund, 10210.

For: Veteran or service member, spouse, child, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Nye County operates a Veterans Service Office, which neither of the state's two large counties does. Its page (read 2026-10-21) says the office serves Nye and Esmeralda counties and is nationally certificated with seven organizations - the American Legion, American Veterans, Marine Corps League, the National Association of County Veterans Service Officers, the Nevada Department of Veterans Services, The Retired Enlisted Association and the California Department of Veterans Services - so its officers can represent a veteran on a VA claim. It lists help with disability compensation and service connection, non-service-connected pension, dependency and indemnity and death pensions, burial, healthcare, vocational rehabilitation, education, life insurance, home loans, appeals and ribbons, at no charge to veterans, their families and survivors, with outreach to Amargosa, Beatty and Tonopah. Who staffs it. The service officer the county names is Brandi Matheny, titled State Veterans Services Officer, at a veterans.nv.gov address - a Nevada Department of Veterans Services employee working from the county office. The claims help is the same free NDVS service veterans get at any state office; the local fact is that Nye houses and funds it. Where it is. The county's Veteran Services page gives 101 Radar Road, Tonopah, (775) 482-8191, open Monday to Thursday. The Board of County Commissioners' agenda of August 4, 2026 places a Veteran Service Officer office in the lobby of Desert View Hospital in Pahrump, and item 21 of that agenda is a program-funding application from Disabled American Veterans Chapter 15 to fund that VSO office at $7,450, to be paid from county fund 10210, the Veterans Services Fund. As of the reading the Board had posted no minutes for the August 4, 2026 meeting, so the $7,450 is the amount the agenda asked for, not a recorded adoption; the Veterans Services Fund itself is confirmed by the county's own Banner Program page and the agenda's fund reference.
