Nueces County Veterans Treatment Court

A 12 to 24 month veterans treatment court in the 105th District Court that can end in dismissal of the charges. It takes only a serving member or a veteran with an honorable or general discharge, with a service-related mental health condition tied to the offense, and bars anyone who has served a prison sentence; Government Code chapter 124 sets none of those limits.

Also called: veterans court, veterans treatment court, VTC, 105th District Court, dismissal, Corpus Christi, Government Code 124.

For: Veteran or service member.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Nueces County has run a Veterans Treatment Court under Government Code chapter 124 since 2011; see the Texas entry. Judge Jack W. Pulcher of the 105th District Court presides, at 901 Leopard Street, Suite 802, Corpus Christi 78401, 361-888-0510. It is supported by a grant from the Texas Veterans Commission's Fund for Veterans' Assistance, renewed for fiscal year 2027 on September 23, 2026. How it runs. A voluntary programme of 12 to 24 months of intensive supervision in three phases, with drug testing, home visits, mental health and substance use treatment through VA and the Vet Center, and community service. A participant who completes it may have eligible pending charges dismissed. The team decides eligibility case by case, and some offenses are excluded. Who it takes. The court's page lists: - active duty service, or an honorable or general under honorable conditions discharge; - a mental health condition resulting from service, such as PTSD or a brain injury; - a link between that condition, the alleged offense and military service; - no history in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice; and - no sex offenders. The application makes the applicant swear to being on active duty or to having an honorable or general discharge. Narrower than the statute. Chapter 124 sets no discharge test and no bar on an earlier prison sentence, and section 124.002(a)(2) also admits a veteran whose participation is likely to achieve public safety through rehabilitation, with no diagnosis or link to service. A veteran with an other-than-honorable discharge should ask the defence lawyer about that route and about courtesy supervision by a programme where the veteran lives or works under section 124.006. How to apply. Fill in the application, save it and email it to [email protected] with the DD-214 (member 4 copy) or service records, VA rating and benefit papers, any treatment records and a signed VA Form 10-5345 release, and arrange the Veterans Justice Outreach screening the application describes.
