Nuckolls County Veterans Aid

Nuckolls County keeps no section 80-102 aid fund; it budgets veterans aid as a $5,000 general fund line ($639.67 spent in 2024-2025) and a $500 line in the office budget, and its page still asks for wartime service and an honorable discharge, tests the 2024 amendment changed.

Also called: county veterans aid, CVA, 80-102, emergency aid, wartime era, Nelson, Superior, Hardy, Lawrence, Nora, Oak, Ruskin.

For: Veteran or service member, spouse, child, survivor.

What the page says. The County Benefits page calls the CVA fund "a temporary emergency fund to assist veterans, their spouses, and dependents when there is an unforeseen emergency and there are no other resources available", for food, shelter, clothing, funeral, medical, dental and surgical items, applied for through the county office; the veteran "must demonstrate an 'inability'" to pay. The test it prints is out of date. The page limits the fund to veterans who "served on active duty, received an Honorable Discharge, and served during one of the defined 'wartime eras'". LB1300 (Laws 2024, section 45) struck the wartime-service test from section 80-102, which now reaches a veteran discharged honorable or general (under honorable conditions), or who died in service, who has lived a year in Nebraska and six months in the county, and a spouse, surviving spouse or minor child in need. A peacetime veteran, or one with a general discharge, should apply anyway. What the county spends. Nuckolls County has no Veterans Aid fund among its budget funds. Its miscellaneous general budget (0100-970) carries a $5,000.00 "Veteran's Aid Costs" line, which spent nothing in 2023-2024 and $639.67 in 2024-2025 and is adopted again for 2025-2026, and the Veterans Service Office budget a further $500.00 line, unspent in both years. The county posts no Board minutes after 2023, so its aid claims since are unread. Apply through the Veterans Service Office, 402-225-3971 extension 9; see the Nebraska entry on the county fund for the committee's discretion and the State's own aid fund.
