Norwalk Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions

Norwalk’s assessor gives a $6,000 basic veterans’ exemption off a home or vehicle, more for a VA disability rating, an income-based additional exemption above that, and the dwelling exemption for a permanent and total rating, excluding land.

Also called: property tax, 12-81g, veterans exemption, assessor, Norwalk.

For: Veteran or service member.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Norwalk’s Tax Exemptions page gives the basic veterans’ exemption as $6,000 off the assessment of the veteran’s home or motor vehicle, for 90 days of wartime service with the DD-214 long form filed with the Town Clerk by September 30, applied to the following July tax bill. A veteran with a VA rating of at least 10 percent who files the rating with the assessor receives a further amount; the page does not print the amounts by rating. A veteran who meets the income requirements can apply for the Additional Veteran’s Exemption, which the page describes as available “in excess of the $6,000”, without printing an amount or income limit. That is the state additional exemption under C.G.S. 12-81g. From October 1, 2024 a veteran rated permanently and totally disabled at 100 percent has the entire dwelling, excluding land, or a condominium, or one vehicle exempt under 12-81(83). A veteran may also have the exemption refunded against a leased vehicle. No Norwalk ordinance adopting a local option was found: the city’s code is not on Municode and a search found it on no other code host. Norwalk did not answer OLR’s 2023 survey.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
