North Stonington Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions

North Stonington’s requirements sheet splits the wartime exemption into $4,000 town and $2,000 state, prints disability exemptions of $9,000 to $18,000 by rating, and carries 2015 income limits for the additional exemption; OLR’s survey recorded the 12-81kk residence option.

For: Veteran or service member.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The assessor’s Veterans’ Exemptions Requirements sheet gives the wartime exemption as “$4,000 (town) & $2,000 (state) = $6,000 reduction to assessment.” The statutory amount under 12-81(19) is $1,000; the sheet’s state figure is that amount raised at revaluation under 12-62g, and the town’s is its own. The sheet’s disability table prints a town and a state amount by rating: 10 to 25 percent, $6,000 plus $3,000; 26 to 50 percent, $8,000 plus $4,000; 51 to 75 percent, $10,000 plus $5,000; 76 to 100 percent and age 65 and over, $12,000 plus $6,000. The statutory 12-81(20) amounts are $2,000 to $3,500, so the sheet’s “state” column is the revaluation-raised amount and the town’s the local addition. Disabled veterans file the VA rating with the assessor and need not refile unless the rating changes. The additional veteran’s exemption section is stale: it says “In calendar year 2015, the max income for a single person is $34,600 and a married couple, the max income is $42,200. This income includes social security,” and for a veteran rated 100 percent disabled gives $18,000 single and $21,000 married, the subsection (a) limits of 12-81g, excluding social security. Ask the assessor for the current limits. OPM’s memo of December 12, 2024 set $45,200 and $55,100 for the 2025 grand list. The sheet gives the active-duty letter an annual September 30 filing with the Town Clerk and one motor vehicle exempt. OLR’s 2023 survey recorded North Stonington as offering the veterans’ primary residence option of 12-81kk. The town’s code is on Municode, which serves its Cloudflare challenge to the automated Chrome; the town’s own code link was not readable.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
