North Haven Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions

North Haven gives every qualifying veteran a minimum $3,000 exemption, adds a town exemption for income up to $81,500 married or $71,300 single on top of the state additional exemption, and takes the D-2 dwelling exemption annually.

Also called: property tax, 12-81g, veterans exemption, assessor, North Haven.

For: Veteran or service member, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The assessor’s veterans tax exemptions page sets a minimum $3,000 exemption for a veteran with 90 days of service in a recognized war or campaign whose discharge is filed with the North Haven Town Clerk, who owns or holds deeded life use of the property, and whose primary residence is in North Haven. A veteran receiving only the base exemption applies once, unless they move out of town; a veteran receiving more reapplies every two years. The page stacks two income-qualified additional exemptions. The state additional exemption of 12-81g(a) doubles the base for income up to $56,500 married or $46,300 single, the 12-81l limits for the 2026 grand list. The additional town exemption, the 12-81f local option, reaches income of $81,500 married or $71,300 single, the state limit plus $25,000. OLR’s 2023 survey recorded North Haven’s wartime local option at $7,000, for income up to $74,100 married or $65,300 single; the town’s own limits have since moved with the state’s. From the October 1, 2025 grand list a veteran rated 100 percent permanently and totally disabled claims the 12-81(83) dwelling exemption annually by January 1 on the D-2 application with the VA rating documentation and an attestation it is not claimed in another town. OLR’s survey also recorded North Haven as offering the 12-81g(b) exemption, three times the 12-81(20) amount for a veteran rated 100 percent, and the 12-81h specially equipped vehicle exemption; the town’s code is on eCode360, which stayed behind its Cloudflare challenge (dubiousenvelope/vettoc issue 168), so no ordinance was read.

Amounts above the base turn on rating and income. The rating filter does not hide this entry.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
