North Branford Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions

North Branford’s veterans’ page sends the veteran to file a DD-214 or certified copy with the Town Clerk on or before September 30 for the following July’s bill and leaves the amounts to state law and the assessor.

Also called: property tax, 12-81g, veterans exemption, assessor, North Branford.

For: Veteran or service member.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The town’s veterans page, kept under the Town Clerk, says a veteran honorably discharged with at least 90 days of wartime service may qualify for an exemption on real estate or motor vehicle taxes, that the exemptions are determined by federal and state law and implemented by the Assessor’s Office, and that the original discharge papers (DD-214) or a certified copy must be filed in the Town Clerk’s Office on or before September 30th to be effective for the following July’s tax bill. It links the National Archives for obtaining a DD-214 and gives no amounts. The wartime exemption is $1,000 of assessed value under C.G.S. 12-81(19), with the 12-81g(a) additional exemption of twice that for income under the 12-81l limit, $46,300 single and $56,500 married for the 2026 grand list. Ask the assessor for the amounts North Branford applies and which local options it has adopted. No local option was found: North Branford’s code is on eCode360 (NO0079), which stayed behind its Cloudflare challenge (dubiousenvelope/vettoc issue 168), and the town did not answer OLR’s 2023 survey. The assessor’s own page describes property tax relief in general terms and prints no veterans’ amounts.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
