Norfolk Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions

Norfolk’s assessor page posts a state additional-veterans application and the town’s own Local Additional Veterans Exemption Application, and OLR’s survey recorded the local option at $20,000 with income limits $25,000 above the state’s.

Also called: property tax, 12-81g, veterans exemption, assessor, Norfolk.

For: Veteran or service member.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The assessor page lists among the office’s responsibilities “Veteran Exemptions,” “Additional Veteran and Local Option Veteran Exemptions,” “Disabled Exemptions” and “Active Duty Military Motor Vehicle Exemptions,” and its resources carry the Additional Veterans Exemption Application (the state’s M-59a), the town’s Local Additional Veterans Exemption Application and the Military MV Exemption Application. The local-option application is headed “Town of Norfolk Application for Local Option Additional Veteran’s Exemption,” filed biennially in a filing period of February 1 through October 1 for the grand list. It counts income from all sources, excludes veterans’ disability payments, and requires the applicant to attest that he or she “is not receiving a State exemption in accordance with Section 12-81g in any other town or city.” OLR’s 2023 survey recorded Norfolk’s wartime additional exemption as $20,000 with income limits of $74,100 married and $65,300 single, the state’s OPM amount plus $25,000. Ask the assessor for the limits that apply to the current filing. The town’s code is on eCode360 (NO1164), which stayed behind its Cloudflare challenge (dubiousenvelope/vettoc issue 168).

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
